On an aerial job last week in the wheat belt I flew over some interesting farmland due to the recent harvests. Would love to have had more time in the area but was on a job so will have to return in the near future especially after a harvest…

Here is a selection of landscapes that are from a few aerial shoots that I have been on in the last few months. Some are from the Goldfields area and some are not far from Kwinana. I love the rich textures and colours that are either man made or by nature.

Aerial Altered Landscapes

Here is a selection of altered landscapes from the air. I have flown over many places in WA but had not explored the goldfields area at all. I found the scenery amazing with salt lakes expanding across so much of the area. Some beautiful homesteads are dotted through the Goldfields and are like little oasis in the red barren landscapes. I have to say it was probably one of the coldest jobs I have done for awhile. With -2 degrees on the ground with the wind chill factor in the air and with the door off it was extremely cold.

On a recent trip to the Kimberley the Gibb River road was closed so we had to make other arrangements and put Kununurra and Wyndham on the itinerary. The weather for a sunset shoot was not looking the best so it was scout the town to see what was around. Lots of amazing old buildings in the town to photograph.

Lake Ballard

Mark Griffin and I travelled to Lake Ballard for a couple of days shooting. The weather was not looking particularly good along the way but by the time we arrived the rain was gone and only the one storm cell hung around which produced some amazing clouds for sunset. Mark used his new Leica M9 and I my trusty Nikon D3S. After walking around the lake in 35 degree heat for a few hours you swear the statues are following you. The lenses I used are the 400 F2.8, 200 F2, 50 1.4 and 85 1.4 as well as the 14-24 .

British sculptor Antony Gormley was commissioned to create ‘something different’ for the Inside Australia project of the Perth International Arts Festival in 2002. They were so popular that the statues were not dismantled and are a unique tourist attraction for the region.

Location: Lake Ballard is located 55 kilometres west of Menzies. Menzies is located 650 kilometres north east of Perth, or 130 kilometres north of Kalgoorlie.

Orchids

As springs comes to an end the last of my orchids are still in bloom and before they all finish I tried to capture there beauty.

TULIPS AT ARALUEN BOTANIC PARK

Spring is in the air, at last….Tulips are once again in bloom in the gardens of Araluen Botanic Park. Definitely worth a visit, especially on these warm springs days.
