On an aerial job last week in the wheat belt I flew over some interesting farmland due to the recent harvests. Would love to have had more time in the area but was on a job so will have to return in the near future especially after a harvest…

When I was driving down to Albany another heavy front was passing over one side of the road and on the other the sun was still shinning and it gave the silos very surreal lighting, they look like tin soldiers guarding the fields.

Cheers Mark…
Cracker Peta…linkin it a lot!
Thanks Merv
Well spotted Peta. nice and simple, like it.

Its a great time for driving in the country, the Canola is just beautiful and the countryside so green. I think this must be one of the best seasons in a very long time.

Thanks Mark, Yes it was such a contrast with a black sky and the yellow canola.
Crackas Peta…love the grey sky against the Canola…works a treat eh!
Thanks Andrea, Great to meet you also. Yes it was a good afternoon and camera is OK…so far….
Hey Peta,
Great to meet you the other night, I had a good time how bout yourself? How did your camera go? Is it ok or are you off to the insurance office?
Your work is just stunning, I just love the shots that you’ve done of the canola, it’s gorgeous.
Thanks Shirley, yes it was a very black sky, just made it back to the car in time before the downpour.
A fabulous set, some of the best canola images I have seen. Works really well with the stormy sky
Thanks Katrina, yes I like the old farmhouse as well, it’s weathered walls hold many stories from the early days.
Fabulous shots Peta, I love the atmosphere in the first shot, but the second shot is my fave. For me it really captures the essence of the country. Really nice work.
Thanks Stuart, yes it is quite mesmerising.
Nice work, Peta. Particularly like the first one and the last one – the last one has that “somebody sprayed the field yellow” impact you only get with canola.
Thanks Ian, just managed to get a couple of shots before the downpour started…
I love the top one with the dark storm clouds – it is probably the best Canola image I have seen recently!
Thanks Merv, doesnt look like much rain is due this week, though it poured as I was travelling to Albany on the Friday, I think I drove through three fronts with lots of rain and hail…
Yes it is excellent everywhere at the moment . One more rain is needed to really make it to full potential though. You have been about Peta and captured some good ones here.

mervfrench - Yes you’ll have to come out when we are seeding , thats done with GPS as well. I’ll let you know when its happening, be some time in June.
Peta - I knew that you would know the answer…GPS…thats why the lines are so straight….I will have to come out next year and see them in action, I think it would be very interesting…
mervfrench - Could be any reason Peta, maybe someone just got bored so turned around to go the other way
. If there are 2 headers working together then when they have to unload a full bin they have to swap rows so one machine will do a loop Those tracks in number 4 are chaser bin tracks. The chaser bin and tractor go out into the paddock and unload the harvester on the move then go back to where the truck is so their tracks go everywhere but you can see they link up to a main track heading into the bottom RH corner, thats the track back to the trucks. The straight line tracks are auto steering with GPS. if they don’t have machines with auto steering then they generally go around and around the paddock in ever decreasing circles. Now , that should really confuse you. !!
Peta - Thanks Merv, ok guess your invited then……
You can answer a question om harvesting….why is it that they go up and down the fields in straight lines then do a couple of turns in the middle and then they go straight again…
mervfrench - Love these Peta, they are great. Next time you go out to get these I’m coming too.
