Pallinup River

Spent a week camping along the Pallinup River. Great canoeing as the river is very full from the recent rains.  With grey skies and very strong easterly ‘s it was tough paddling down but  surfing on the way back, it was not brilliant for photography but sometimes its nice to just sit back and enjoy.

Sandy@Shots - Wow Peta…loving these Pelican images :-) especially given the conditions in which they were shot! Congrats on the awards too.

Peta - Thanks Stuart.

Peta - Thanks for that Pete. Yes I agree Nikon do have fantastic glass. I think sometimes my old 80-200 is sharper than my 70-200VRII.

Pete Hodgson - Great stuff Peta, the detail is pretty good for a zoom with a 2x but I guess thats why I love Nikon glass. (-:

Peta - Thanks Charlene, no I didn’t use my big lens as I was in a canoe in very strong winds, in fact I used my old trusty D2X and 80-200mm and a 2x convertor. I set myself off to drift into the take off path of the Pelicans and because the wind was so strong they cruised past really slowly. It was a challenge because my canoe had a mind of its own and thought I was going to capsize a couple of times.

Charlene - Wow Peta, my eyes are falling out at the detail on those pelican shots. Were you using some big guns (i mean, a 600mm or similar) to get them?

November 9, 2011 - 8:10 am

Stuart - That middle pelican shot is a pearler.

November 7, 2011 - 2:33 pm

Peta - Cheers Mark, it was difficult taking photos from a canoe in 20 knots winds once you stop paddling the canoe always wants to swing side ways.

True North Mark - Crackin black and white Peta and also crackin Pelican shots…you nailed em again girl! :)
