The Havaianas 2012 Australia Day Thong Challenge

Cottesloe Beach set the world record with 2088 people on bright yellow thongs and beat last years winner by 712. The weather was hot but produced smooth conditions and looked spectacular from the air. The colours were amazing, the water was so clear.

On an aerial job last week in the wheat belt I flew over some interesting farmland due to the recent harvests. Would love to have had more time in the area but was on a job so will have to return in the near future especially after a harvest…

New Rail – Morawa

Had an interesting aerial shoot this week, 80kms of railway track. The countryside was amazing, so rich in colour and the fields had just been harvested so heaps of interesting patterns along the way. With the cyclone up north pushing easterly winds down it was extremely windy and with the temperature around 36 degrees it made a very, very bumpy hot shoot. Thank goodness for Nikons high ISO, most shots were taken at 1/3200 sec anything less and it would have blurred.

Here is a post from a aerial shoot of “The Leighton” before and after sunset. The NikonD3S is fantastic in low light situations and especially when it gets a bit bumpy and you need to extract the higher shutter speeds.

The Shipyards

Here is a couple of pics from around the shipyards, I always fly over the shipyards back to Jandakot airport and it was so nice to see a still ocean and nice afternoon light. I think winter is the best time for aerial work.

MT KEITH AND LEINSTER AERIAL WORK

Leinster is approximately 368 kms from Kalgoorlie and is like a little oasis in the desert. I was amazed at how green it was. Mt Keith was a short flight along the Goldfields highway passing a couple of homesteads along the way. Lots of salt lakes and of course the mine operations. Aerial night shots was a challenge but the Nikon D3S handled the low light easily even with the few bumps always associated with flying.
