BROLGA MAGIC – ALONG THE GIBB RIVER ROAD

I walked into a gorge for a sunrise shoot and came across two Broglas feeding. I was able to get fairly close and watch them dance and forage along the bank.

Brolga and other cranes have elaborate courtship displays. This mating dance is what Brolgas are most famous for. With wings spread and facing each other, the two Brolgas jump, dance and pirouette, prance about and perform with a lot of head movement. Brolgas will often jump a metre into the air with wings outspread, or they will beat their wings whilst taking a few steps forward. At the same time they make loud trumpeting calls to each other. Although primarily a mating ritual, such displays do occur all year round, but to a much lesser degree.

GIBB RIVER PHOTOGRAPHIC TOUR 2010

The Gibb River Road photographic trip for 2010 was a great success and our guests went home with hundreds of great photos and hopefully a lot of new techniques and a better understanding of photography and light. The gorges along the gibb are truly amazing and each one showed us that unique Kimberley magic and with our itinerary we were able to make the most of the morning and afternoon light and still have time to explore and swim. We are taking bookings for next years Gibb River Road so if you think your up to walking all day through the most beautiful gorges, relaxing on a boat at Gekki gorge, hanging out of a helicopter and experiencing one of the longest water crossing in the dark and photographing the sunrise at Brancos then this trips for you. I will be posting over the next few weeks some of the photos from the trip and also a short video.

WEST KIMBERLEY – THE WET SEASON – BOABS

While working up in the Pilbara and the Kimberley over the last few weeks I did get a chance to get out for a sunrise and get some photos of Boabs. Boabs are striking without the leaves so it was great to get a chance to see them in the wet with leaves.
