On an aerial job last week in the wheat belt I flew over some interesting farmland due to the recent harvests. Would love to have had more time in the area but was on a job so will have to return in the near future especially after a harvest…

What a great place Queenstown is, I was lucky enough to get 6 days in Queenstown last month. I couldn’t get over the fact that it didn’t get dark until around 9:30 so it was great to be able to go out and walk around and eat late. The weather closed in for a few…

I’m sure you wouldn’t have had any issues if you were using a Canon…
Thanks Stuart, Queenstown is such a pretty place with lots of photographic opportunities. Camera played up on the trip so didn’t get as much as I would have liked but I am sure I will head back there in the near future.
Great shots, Peta. My fav is the Evening Light pic, but they’re all excellent. Queenstown is a great spot.
Thanks Ian. I have only been to NZ in winter so it was nice to see it in spring.
Thanks Sandy.
I can’t imagine what only two hours of sunlight must be like. Look forward to more posts.
The light in these shots is amazing!
The ‘walk in a forest’ shot does it for me, and as always, love the aerial stuff. It’s funny you saying it doesn’t get dark until 9.30pm…sounds great! We’re getting about 2 hours of daylight here in Norway and we never actually see the sun as it doesn’t even peak over the horizon….it has ‘long service leave’ until January! Light-ish at 10.30am….dark again at 12.30pm. Soak up some sunshime for me

Hiya Love these, the landscape looks so different from up there. colours and contrast are amazing
Thanks Stuart, Love the description someone forgot to put the thread…it does look like that….
Its white because its salt, the rest of the area was very red dirt so the white stood out and I am not sure what the tracks are but I liked the look of it. It is out the back of Kambalda/Kalgoorlie. They have a lot of lakes out there.
Hi Peta – these are sensational. #1 and #5 look like oil paintings. #6 looks like someone forgot to put thread in the sewing machine. (BTW where is it and how come its so whit – is it frost?)

Here is a selection of landscapes that are from a few aerial shoots that I have been on in the last few months. Some are from the Goldfields area and some are not far from Kwinana. I love the rich textures and colours that are either man made or by nature.

These are absolutely great Peta. Love ‘em all.
Thanks Ian
Peta – These are stunning. I’m not even sure I can work out which one I like best.
Ian
Thanks Merv, hopefully one day I can hold an exhibition with all aerial pics.
Thanks Stuart
Gee theres some good ones in these Peta. Great stuff.
These are great, Peta. They look more like oil paintings than photographs.

When I was driving down to Albany another heavy front was passing over one side of the road and on the other the sun was still shinning and it gave the silos very surreal lighting, they look like tin soldiers guarding the fields.

mervfrench - Yes you’ll have to come out when we are seeding , thats done with GPS as well. I’ll let you know when its happening, be some time in June.
Peta - I knew that you would know the answer…GPS…thats why the lines are so straight….I will have to come out next year and see them in action, I think it would be very interesting…
mervfrench - Could be any reason Peta, maybe someone just got bored so turned around to go the other way
. If there are 2 headers working together then when they have to unload a full bin they have to swap rows so one machine will do a loop Those tracks in number 4 are chaser bin tracks. The chaser bin and tractor go out into the paddock and unload the harvester on the move then go back to where the truck is so their tracks go everywhere but you can see they link up to a main track heading into the bottom RH corner, thats the track back to the trucks. The straight line tracks are auto steering with GPS. if they don’t have machines with auto steering then they generally go around and around the paddock in ever decreasing circles. Now , that should really confuse you. !!
Peta - Thanks Merv, ok guess your invited then……
You can answer a question om harvesting….why is it that they go up and down the fields in straight lines then do a couple of turns in the middle and then they go straight again…
mervfrench - Love these Peta, they are great. Next time you go out to get these I’m coming too.
